accredited university in a healthcare related field. Bachelor’s
degree is preferred. Experience / Qualifications Minimum of 5 years
of management experience within Sterile Processing. Current
certification as a Central Service Technician (CRCST) and Certified
Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) from CBSPR or certification in
healthcare leadership (CHL) from IAHCSMM is required. Must have
working knowledge of AORN and AAMI standards, OSHA guidelines,
IAHCSMM and regulatory agencies. Extensive knowledge of
sterilization processes and technical knowledge of surgical
instrumentation and sterilization equipment, supplies, and OR case
cart processing is required. Technical knowledge of computer
instrument tracking. Position Summary The Director of sterile
processing collaborates and assists with the development of
departmental goals and objectives consistent with the organization
strategic plan related to the OR. Manages, directs, and coordinates
the operation of sterile processing assuring maximum utilization of
available resources. Provides overall leadership to the sterile
processing department by developing goals and objectives which
align with organizational values. Oversees the development of
policies which affects the sterilization processes of surgical and
procedural areas. Monitors and establishes processes to ensure that
all practices of the sterile processing department are within the
established guidelines of the appropriate regulatory agencies.
Develops goals and objectives for sterile processing based on
interpretation of the policy and goals of surgical services.
Develops and implements a plan to establish priorities and to
achieve short- and long-term goals. Ensures the department
understands and supports the vision of the hospital. Initiates
changes in or develop new policies, procedures and/or methods based
on AAMI standards. Ensures the most effective operations of sterile
processing through program development, process improvement and
coordination/integration of processes within surgical services.
Reviews and provides recommendations and support to other
departments on issues related to sterile processing such as
purchasing of additional operating room instruments. Standardizes
processing services, processes, resources, and practices to improve
quality and efficiency. Adjusts work schedules or project
priorities to meet emergencies or changing conditions. Represents
sterile processing on departmental and/or interdepartmental
committees to address problems and facilitate information exchange
about programs, problems, etc. Analyzes and evaluates ongoing
department programs to identify areas where adjustments and
improvements are needed. Develops staffing plans to ensure
operational and administrative needs are met. Defines and achieves
financial targets in support of business goals of surgical
services. Assists with the preparation of the annual operating
budget for sterile processing. Reviews department financials on
monthly basis; determines cause and corrective action for any
variance. Establishes service standards for the department and
ensures that defined standards are met utilizing best practices.
Ensures ongoing staff education to maintain current regulatory
standards and best practices. Monitors and ensures compliance with
all relevant guidelines and regulations from CDC, AAMI and The
Joint Commission. Works with the vendors on loaner and consigned
trays and ensures vendor adherence to current policies for loaner
tray delivery, etc. Effectively uses and role models current
management techniques and theories, encouraging the decision-making
skills of staff members and providing insight and leadership in
complex situations. Supervises the development of service policies,
procedures, and operating guidelines. Collaborates with other
services within the division. Ensures that information is
disseminated to staff is monitored for effectiveness and changed as
needed. Understands and enforces all hospital and personnel
policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned

self-motivated. Ability to push/pull up to 40lbs., carry and lift
up to 20lbs. Threshold Requirements These threshold requirements
are required and completed yearly basis. Annual Joint Commission
mandatory education requirements, in-service and health
requirements including attendance at new employee orientation.
