This job has primary responsibility for the management and leadership of the Domestic Auto Accounting functions within the Global Lifestyle segment.  Reporting to the Controller of Global Lifestyle, this role has overall responsibility for all accounting functions & practices, systems & internal controls for the Auto line of business. This includes but is not limited to the general accounting functions and financial records; internal controls; all financial reporting including balance sheets and income statements and related disclosures; GAAP & STAT reporting; monthly and quarterly close including account reconciliations and analytics; and accounting consultation with the business and coordination with Corporate Accounting team.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Formulates strategy & processes to ensure appropriate accounting for Auto LOB.

  • Liaison with business leaders & finance leadership to ensure decisions are aligned, highlighting risks and risk mitigation where appropriate

  • Oversees complex accounting environment 

  • Ensures that appropriate accounting policies & procedures are applied to routine and non-routine financial transactions and business events, including consultation with business and FP&A regarding accounting implications of transactions

  • Ensures compliance with all SEC, GAAP and Statutory requirements as applicable

  • Ensures company maintains appropriate financial reporting to meet needs of Auto LOB and Corporate management, shareholders, audit committee of the Board of directors, SEC and all filing agencies

  • Sets strategy for the planning, directing & coordinating the processes to ensure effective accounting function, including compliance with SOX requirements and effective internal control over financial reporting

  • Establish best practices to collect, capture & analyze financial data to ensure accuracy of financial data and ensure that the business and management has accurate and complete financial information to manage the business measure progress against financial targets

  • Maintain relationships with external partners & auditors

  • Along with other key finance leaders helps design systems and implement processes related to system and process initiatives (e.g., GLOW/AIM conversions, ERP, manual processes)

  • Integration of prior and future acquisitions

  • Focus on process improvements across the Auto LOB accounting

  • function and coordination across the enterprise (e.g., FP&A, operations, business) to ensure efficient and effective accounting function

  • Attract, recruit and develop talent. 

Responsibility for the work of others:

All teams in the Auto LOB accounting functional areas including the general accounting and reporting teams.  Will include VP’s, Directors and subordinate team members.

Basic Qualifications Required – Experience, Skills and Knowledge:


  • College degree in accounting, plus CPA, chartered accountant or equivalent designation required:



  • Minimum of 12-15 years of experience in a Controllership or Accounting/Finance leadership role

  • Effectively managing teams in different locations

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong US GAAP knowledge

  • Knowledge of insurance accounting principles

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office

  • Comfortable working with senior stakeholders

  • Ability to manage numerous deadlines and prioritize workload accordingly

Travel: Flexible but can go up to 15%

Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong accounting and analytical skills & knowledge

  • Public accounting experience a plus

  • Prior experience in a multi-national company

  • Strong knowledge in US GAAP

  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and overcome challenges

  • Comfortable with being a change agent as the organization continues to transform

  • Knowledge and experience with ERP system implementations and operating in a sophisticated financial system environment

  • CPA required and MBA strongly preferred

  • Proven experience in developing and improving processes and controls

  • Prior experiences as controller and senior finance executive in a publicly traded company

  • Experience leading large teams and assessing and developing talent

  • High integrity
